Mark

Serving in the Australian Intercultural Team

Mark serves as an intercultral team member and community chaplain in Gungahlin, Canberra.

Over the past five years Mark has read the Bible in cafes, pubs, and clubs with people from countries and cultures all over the world. He is often involved in conversations offering companionship and counselling.

This mission of presence and friendship has resulted in two small ‘Open Circle’, or simple church, gatherings where people read and ponder scripture together in local spaces, such as a barber shop and cafe. These communities consist of people from various religious and cultural backgrounds who are curious about Jesus, keen to contribute to mission or who find traditional Sunday church challenging to access.

Mark imagines a network of ‘Open Circle’ communities meeting weekly across Gungahlin who gather together every few months for worship and celebration around how Jesus is at work in Gungahlin.

Mark is the official chaplain to the Gungahlin Eagles Rugby club – a community of well over 100 men and women from around the region. The role has seen Mark represent the presence of Jesus in ambulances, hospitals, court cases, police interviews, and in numerous conversations around life’s ups and downs. Mark attends training sessions, game days, and is a recognised part of the club’s support structure.

Mark is also a pastor and musician and is married to Katie. They have three children, Zoe, Jordan and Charlotte. Mark and Katie are thrilled to be expecting their first grandchild in August.

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
