word and deed
We’ve always been committed to sharing God’s love by word and deed. We see these two things as inseparable when we look at the ways of Jesus. Our teams and partners share the hope of Jesus by word, and we participate in God’s restorative vision through loving and just practical action.
We’re committed to taking the whole Gospel to the whole world – as people and our planet yearn for transformation.
We’re incarnational and contextual
We bring our vision to life in local communities across the globe. We have always had a passionate commitment to fleshing out Jesus’ incarnational approach, by walking alongside people where they are.
As we do this, we seek to break down cultural and religious barriers, so that the good news of Jesus makes sense to people in their own culture and language.
As a people committed to contextualisation, we affirm that in our changing world no culture is static and that contextualisation must remain a dynamic, innovative, collaborative process, where we increasingly listen to global south voices.
We care
We demonstrate a high level of care for our intercultural team members, offering specialised and professional support alongside pastoral and preventative care.
We ensure appropriate financial allowances for each context, adequate health insurance and retirement contribution. Intercultural service comes with unique challenges and it is our responsibility to support team members in all seasons of life and ministry.
We’re increasingly collaborative
With almost 70% of followers of Jesus now living in the global south, we’re committed to building grassroots partnerships to multiply Kingdom impact.
As we continue to send people from Australia, we see that they will play a vital role in catalysing and strengthening partnerships, as well as developing local passionate missional leaders.
This doesn’t mean we won’t be involved in pioneering mission, but we will increasingly ask who the Spirit is leading us to collaborate with, so we can be more effective in our work and good stewards of our resources.
You don’t need to be from a local Baptist church to serve with us, but we are committed to building partnerships with local churches in Australia, which support local and global mission. If you are from a Baptist church then we are uniquely positioned to help you navigate next steps in your discernment journey.
We’re tailored and flexible
The world is changing. The global church is changing. The Australian church is changing. In such a context we see the need to create tailored and flexible pathways for people to join God’s mission across the world.
As we respond to change all around us, our new sending strategy prioritises sending the right people, to the right place, for the right role, at the right time.
We value that some team members will pursue long-term service. They will go to places with a plan to spark Gospel curiosity and pursue holistic community transformation. They will learn the local language and culture, and journeying alongside people towards Jesus over time.
Others will be led by the Spirit into short-term service where they will be used by God to achieve specific purposes, or laying a foundation that others will build on.
Flexible service may look like remote and fly-in-fly-out roles, co-vocational service, secondment to another organisation, one member of a couple serving with us while the other has employment, or other possibilities.
Whether long-term or short-term, we are eager to come alongside individuals, couples and families to develop tailored, flexible approaches.
