Intercultural Learning Network
Baptist Mission Australia's Intercultural Learning network is a hub to sharpen our understanding of what mission means in the places we serve.
It is a collaborative, Spirit-led initiative that fosters innovation and cultural awareness, empowering a new generation of leaders to share insights and learn from one another ‘from everywhere to everywhere.’ On this page you will find resources to equip you on your intercultural mission journey, opportunities to use your skills to empower others and initiatives you can invest in to support emerging leaders with limited access to theological training.
“The Intercultural Learning Network will play a key role in bridging the global leadership gap by intentionally decentralising power and amplifying the diverse wisdom of Majority World Christianity. Our goal is locally led, contextual missional leadership.”
Geoff Maddock, Intercultural Learning Network Director
Our vision is to see more people experiencing and expressing the transforming love and hope of Jesus.

“Mission is not about bringing our own culture to others, but about being witnesses to how the Gospel transforms every culture from within its own unique social reality.”
Melba Maggay, Philippines
“Mission is not the preserve of any one culture; the growth of the gospel in the last century invites us to see mission as an enterprise that progresses outwards from every context to the ends of the earth.”
Kyama Mugambi (Kenya):
“The ultimate display of maturity in the body of Christ is interdependence; we must move past the model of ‘the West to the rest’ to a reciprocal mission where every part of the body gives and receives.”
Oscar Muriu, Kenya
“The center of gravity in the Christian world has shifted; the future of Christian theological witness lies in the hearts and minds of African, Asian, and Latin American believers.”
Kwame Bediako (Ghana):
“Mission is now from everywhere to everywhere; the church in the Majority World is not a ‘mission field’ but a vital mission force for the global restoration of all things.”
Joseph D’Souza, India
“True partnership in mission requires us to share power and responsibilities fairly, recognizing that the Holy Spirit blows over the world at will, reconnecting all creation.”
Fidon Mwombeki, Tanzania
“Intercultural mission is a call to unity in diversity, where no one race or region holds a monopoly on the truth of God’s work.”
Elizabeth Tapia, Philippines
“The Intercultural Learning Network will function as the connective tissue for our organisation, facilitating an exchange of resources and insights to ensure every leader in our wider community is supported as they participate in God’s work of whole-of-life restoration.”
Geoff Maddock, Australia
