Australian Initiatives

While most of our ministry is focused in local communities in Asia and Africa, we see expanding Spirit-led opportunities in Australia.

The mission field is here

The world continues to come to Australia. Recent ABS data shows that one third of Australians were born overseas, nearly half have a parent that was born overseas, and one quarter use a language other than English at home.

Migration and diaspora movements have changed the face of our Australian Baptist movement and created new intercultural mission opportunities across the nation.

Intercultural communities are the fastest growing churches and among the most missionally vital across our movement. While we celebrate this growth, many local Baptist churches struggle to cross cultural and religious barriers in their local communities. Others see new opportunities in their changing communities and are looking to Baptist Mission Australia for advice and support.

We’re excited as we see God’s Spirit at work in new ways across Australia and we’re available to support your church.

Sharing God's love with First Nations people

We’re also seeking to be proactive in helping Baptist churches grow in First Nations cultural awareness and look at how they can strengthen engagement with First Nations people and communities. This builds on our long-held commitment to walk alongside First Nations people, including more than fifty years of serving together in the Northern Territory.

Integrated action plan

We will bring our Future Directions Paper to life in Australia through an integrated action plan aimed at seizing new, Spirit-led opportunities alongside Australian Baptist churches. The action plan will focus on…

Crossing the street…

Supporting and resourcing imaginative mission and the loving and just ways of Jesus in Australia.

Crossing the world…

While strengthening tailored Australian church partnerships, supporting our teams and ministry partners across the world.

Launching an Intercultural Learning Network

In culturally and religiously diverse Australia and with huge shifts across our Baptist movement, we see the Spirit opening new doors of opportunity for our mission community in Australia. Humbly, we desire to share our expertise and experience in supporting, resourcing and catalysing imaginative, intercultural mission in local communities across Australia.
