Passion for God’s Word

27 February 2025

One of our Yawo friends is quite an important chief in the district. We have known him for years and over time have formed a great relationship with him.

Over the last six months he has been enthusiastically listening to his audio Bible, especially as he walks to and from his farm.

Whenever I (Cam) ask him what he has been listening to, he excitedly tells me the latest story he’s heard about Jesus. It’s obvious that he is understanding the stories at a deeper level. He has also been inviting other men from his village into his home to listen to the Bible and discuss the meaning of different passages.

A few months ago, I asked him if he would like to study stories of Jesus together. He agreed, so we set a time to meet for a few days later. The day arrived, but an important meeting came up, so we rescheduled.

We tried five times to meet but each time something came up. I concluded that maybe he didn’t actually want to meet and stopped trying to push the issue.

But the Chief was still excited to study and when I ran into him a month later, he asked if we could once again schedule a time to meet!

After more interruptions to our plans I suggested that maybe Satan wanted to stop the Chief from studying God’s word about Jesus. Despite this we were committed to keep trying and the Chief suggested that we meet spontaneously without mentioning the time out loud.

Finally, we managed to sit down to begin studying the life of Jesus together!

It has been so encouraging to see the Chief’s excitement at studying God’s word and sharing with others in his community. Please pray that through audio Bibles more Yawo people will grow in relationship with Jesus and develop a passion for the word of God.
