This Prayerful Clean Up activity is an opportunity to practically care for your local community, while you pray for the world and our Baptist Mission Australia teams. It is an invitation to join with God in bringing restoration to all things, and to mirror what is happening across the globe as our teams seek to share God’s love with their local friends. 

The prayer focus for this activity is the world and our intercultural teams. While it can be completed as a standalone activity, it is best engaged with in conjunction with the Prayer Scavenger Hunt activity, which focuses on prayer for your local community.

Who is this for?

You can participate in this activity as a small group or whole congregation. It is perfect for youth and adults, but can be adapted for children too.

How to participate

Walk around your local neighbourhood, sports oval or school and pick up any rubbish you see. As you pick up rubbish, or after you finish, pray for the world and our intercultural teams. Use the prayer prompts linked below to guide your prayers. Additionally, you can distribute newsletters or prayer points from the particular team members you partner with.

Ensure each person or group has a printed copy of the prayer points, as well as the gloves and rubbish bags they need in order to collect rubbish. If picking up rubbish is not suitable for your neighbourhood, choose another activity that allows you to practically restore, clean or beautify a local space.

If you are a large group, split into groups of 4-6 people and assign different streets or community spaces to each group.

After the clean up, gather together to thank God for how He is at work in the world and through the ministries of our intercultural teams. Praise God for the transformation that is occurring and for how He is acting to restore communities around the world.

Optional: Communion

You may choose to take the opportunity to close your prayer time with communion. This can be used to highlight that we are all a part of God’s body. Whether we are sharing His love locally or globally, we are all participating in God’s redemptive work and must surrender to Him
