How to participate
This activity involves praying through dance. As children complete different dance moves, they will pray for people, places and things in their community and across the world.
1. Gather children in the middle of a room ready to dance.
2. Explain each dance move and its corresponding prayer point. Have a practice of each dance. (Note: adapt these dance moves as needed for your group and accessibility needs). Dance moves:
» Waving hands in the air
Give thanks for God’s beautiful creation.
» Spin in a circle (or run around the room)
Pray for people around the world.
» Bob down to the ground
Pray for someone in your family.
» Disco finger point
Pray for someone at your church.
» Free dance
Pray for kids around the world to thrive.
» Heartbeat in chest
Give thanks that God loves you and has created you the way you are.
» Star jumps
Give praise to God! Give thanks that God is a good, fair and loving God.
» Dance with someone else
Pray for your friends.
» Make it your own! Ask the kids for more dance and prayer ideas…
3. Start the music and invite the children to start dancing. Call out different prayer dance moves and demonstrate the moves.
4. Stay with the same move for enough to pray. Leader kicks of the prayer and prays out loud. As time goes on, invite the kids to share a short prayer out loud too.
5. Go through all the dances at least once, then invite the children to pick choose which dance moves they want to do next. Invite them to think of their own dance and prayer ideas.
