Suzanne shares how she and others are becoming more like the Son.

One of the best things about serving here with the K people of the Silk Road is seeing them express that they want to be more like Jesus.

Last year I celebrated Christmas with my friend Mary and her family. We ate lots of delicious food and read from the Bible. After we read, Mary asked if she could read the Christmas story again in her heart language.

Mary is now reading the Bible in the K language, and when we walk to fitness together in the mornings, we get to discuss what she’s learning, her reflections, and what she thinks about the passages she’s reading.

Recently, Mary told me about the conflict she was having with her in-laws. I shared with her the words of Jesus, that we should do good to those who wish us harm. That we should pray for them and forgive them. Unbeknownst to me, she went home that night and prayed. She said that she had forgiven them. The next day, her brother-in-law came to visit completely unprompted, beginning the reconciliation process.

Mary is already so much like Jesus. She is kind, loyal and generous with her time, and now she’s saying that she wants to become even more like Him too.

Approaching two years here on the Silk Road. I’m learning to become more like Jesus and more like K people so that they can recognise Jesus in me. As part of this, I’ve been giving English lessons, mostly to teenagers and adults who want to learn English, so they can reach their goals; getting into university, studying overseas, being able to engage with the media that they love in a better way. I’ve made genuine friendships, both in English and in K, and in a mix of both. I get to spend time with people who care about me and who I care about as well.

Thank you for your partnership that allows me to be here on the Silk Road. Learning to be more like a J and a K person. Please join me in uplifting Mary and her family as they come to know Jesus more and more. Uplift me too as I wade deeper into the linguistic and cultural world of the K people here. Thank you.
