The Education Foundation was founded by the Baptist Mission Australia team in 2012.
It has grown significantly and operates in six locations across three islands and employs close to 50 local people. The local employees come from a variety of faith backgrounds, with most coming from low socio-economic communities. It offers lessons in English and South East Asian languages. For many students, increasing their language competency improves their standard of living.
Our team are involved in staff training that upgrades vocational skills in areas including teaching as well as practical life skills such as health care for the elderly, financial literacy and computer training. These programs enable individuals and families to holistically improve their standards of living, benefiting their entire communities.
The holistic impact of this work extends beyond education and employment. Through the Foundation, humanitarian initiatives provide food and health support, free English lessons in poorer areas and extra-curricular activities for children from families that are vulnerable.
Funds for this project support rent, wages and operational expenses as well as other needs in the community that arise throughout the year.
Over the past decade local students have gained employment opportunities, received training in practical skills and have gone on to be teachers, health workers, translators, aged care workers, IT workers and more. The Foundation has also trained hundreds of expatriates in the national and local languages and cultures, many of whom work alongside communities in South East Asia to bring whole of life transformation.
Please note: If a project is fully funded when your gift arrives, we will allocate your gift to a project, team member or ministry that is in the same location or fulfils a similar purpose.
