Mel

Mel has built strong relationships with local people by teaching at the English Centre, regularly walking and running with local friends, and participating and facilitating fitness sessions in partnership with a local fitness center. These relationships have created opportunities for meaningful conversations about faith, with some individuals even accepting and beginning to read the Bible in their heart language.

As Mel prepares to return to the Silk Road for a second term, she is eager to deepen her language and cultural understanding while strengthening her relationships with the community.

Through her English teaching, she aims to continue meeting the community’s holistic needs by offering young people access to education and job opportunities, which can help lift families out of poverty.

Mel also hopes to explore new ways to empower women in the community by offering more fitness and self-defense programs. She looks forward to following the Spirit’s guidance in sharing the good news of Jesus with local friends in their heart language and in a way that makes sense to them.
