1
Living as IMITATORS

Loving Heavenly Father,

We pause in your presence with grateful hearts, reflecting on the journey you are leading us on. Over the years, our walk with you has deepened our understanding of what it means to follow you everyday.

Thank you for enabling us to show resilience, compassion, and humility through moments of joy and times of challenge. Often, it is those difficult moments that stretch us the most, and yet they are the very moments that bring us back to depend on you alone.

Thank you for the gift of relationships with those around us. Remind us that everyone carries their own story, wounds and burdens. It is indeed a sacred privilege to listen and to walk alongside others.

Jesus, you loved to the very end. As we look at the people around us let us see them through your eyes. Let our love be patient and kind, even if we are misunderstood. Let our love be courageous, even if the cost is high.

We know we do not have all the answers. Yet, help us to be present and listen well. We love only because you first loved us. Let your love continue to compel us to love others as you do.

Help our lives be a reflection of your love and faithfulness.

In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer written by Max and Ezzie, Baptist Mission Australia team members in South East Asia.

2
Living as BEAUTIFIERS

Jesus, Creator of all things, we praise you that are good.

From the mighty sun and stars to the smallest of creatures that crawl upon the earth, you made it all, and all that you have made is good. Thank you for the beauty of the world you have given us. May we cherish and care for it as you have commanded.

Jesus, giver of life and lover of our souls, thank you that you have given us life and bestowed upon us the privilege of knowing you and being known by you.

What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

May we be satisfied in your love and ever be in wonder of your loving kindness.

Jesus, Word of God become flesh, thank you that although it would cause you great suffering you came for us.

You inserted yourself into our messy world, embraced us in our pain and bore our shame in death that we might be restored to yourself. Thank you that you invite us to partnership with you in your work of redemption. May every nation, tribe and tongue be restored to you.

Jesus, giver of good gifts, thank you that we are made in your image as created creative beings.

Thank you for the gift of creativity in all its forms, from music and art to schedules and spreadsheets. Remind us that all your gifts are good. Just as creation reflects your glory may the work of our hands ever point others to your goodness.

Amen

Prayer written by Luke and Belle, Baptist Mission Australia team members in Thailand.

3
Living at IN-BETWEENERS

Heavenly, Earthly Creator,
God of time and place,
Maker of then
and now
and not yet,
Father, Son, Spirit,
We call out to you from [name where you are],

We read the words of Jesus in his hometown synagogue,
And you show us how to be faithful,
at the ragged edges of the ‘in-between’.

Give us eyes that truly see the world as it is,
Always caught in between your undeniably magnificent creation
and the deep wound that shatters our hopes and fractures our systems.

This is where you call us to be faithful,
at the ragged edges of the in-between.

When we see injustice, grant us the holy restlessness to say, “It shouldn’t be this way”. Help us to move beyond just seeing and into the tangled beauty of the world, always following the example of Jesus.

This is where you call us to be faithful,
at the ragged edges of the in-between.

We ask for courage to inhabit good news
where poverty and despair have taken root.
Speak for the voiceless
and confront the systems that exploit and oppress.
Practice a costly love
that refuses to stay quiet in the face of cruelty.

This is where you call us to be faithful,
at the ragged edges of the in-between.

May our tables be welcoming
And our hope restored,
and our vision clear,
and our bodies Spirit-filled,
as we join you ‘in-between’
making all things new.

Amen.

Prayer written by Geoff Maddock of Baptist Mission Australia’s National Team.

4
Living as COLLABORATORS

Father, Son and Spirit,

As God three in one, you show us how to perfectly work together in unity and love for a common Kingdom purpose.

On earth we see Jesus praying to the Father and drawing strength from the Spirit. We see Him bringing people into His ministry – imperfect, immature, inexperienced people. Inviting them to take part in the transformation.

We see Jesus teaching, welcoming, shepherding, caring and serving.

Help us follow your example of loving, unified, Kingdom collaboration.

Grow our heart to work together as the body of Christ and to let go of the things that don’t matter but keep us apart.

Fill our ministry teams with understanding, humility, shared vision and mutual respect.

May we embrace opportunities for missional collaboration across cultures, perspectives and unspoken boundaries. May our hearts be open to learn, grow and be shaped by those whose lived experience is different to our own.

In the name of the Father, Son and Spirit,

Amen

Prayer written by Teagan Dwyer-Riviere of Baptist Mission Australia’s National Team.
