It has been a busy start to 2026 as we’ve been working on the café expansion and preparing a space for the baristaship program, which will be launching as soon as we find the right candidates.

The cafe has been doing really well, so well, in fact, that we were faced with the good problem of needing to expand. We spent the past several months renovating the second floor with a new preparation kitchen, extra seating, and a second coffee bar that we’ll use to conduct our barista training. We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision in providing these extra things.

During the renovation, the cafe needed to close for two weeks, so we used this time for training and team building activities.

With the cafe off limits, we hosted the team in our homes. This was such a special time.

We really feel the team has become a lot closer as a result.

One activity we did together was share about our first time at the cafe. Some shared about their first shift, others shared about their first impressions during their interview, but several shared more deeply. They gave background context to what their lives looked like before they worked for us.

Something that surprised me was that they remembered exactly where they were and what they were doing when they got the call from Bee, offering them a position. Over and over again, our staff acknowledged that the call was an answer to their prayers. It was so moving.

After listening to everyone share their story, Bee asked if she too could share. She explained to them that before each interview, sometimes during and definitely afterwards, we prayed that God would point us to the right person for the role. We wanted it to be His choice, not ours. And every time we had a sense that they were the right person.

I heard a few people gasp. It’s like a penny dropped, “God chose me. He saw me in my situation. He cares about me.”

In that very special moment, we saw a few sets of eyes light up as they realised that God is not perhaps as far away as they imagined Him to be. He is close to them, and He loves them.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership with us as we continue to bring God’s love to life – everyday, in every place.
