New national church relationships role

16 September 2025

At Baptist Mission Australia we’re passionately committed to cheering on local churches as they participate in God’s mission across the street, and across the world!

We see and celebrate the part we can play in supporting and equipping local Australian Baptist churches and pastors in a culturally and religiously diverse Australia, as well as shaping tailored, mutual partnerships that support local churches actively participating in global mission.

In pursuing this vision, Baptist Mission Australia has developed an Australian Action Plan, which captures our key locally based ministry priorities.

One of these strategic priorities is the strengthening of relationships with local churches across our movement. To support this key initiative Baptist Mission Australia has created a new National Church Relationship Manager role.

Executive Director Scott Pilgrim comments: “Local churches have been a centrepiece of our rich faith and serving story for 150 years, and in a changing Australia, and with big changes in the Australian church, we are wanting to renew our commitment to building strong relationships with churches across the nation.

To this end, I am very excited that we have appointed Pastor Lisa Cornish in the new role of National Church Relationships Manager. The role is a great fit for Lisa who has demonstrated her relational and pastoral gifts and strengths, as she comes alongside pastors and church leaders, and builds Christ-centred partnerships.

In her new role Lisa will work closely with me and other key National Team members as we seek to build new tailored church partnerships and strengthen strategic relationships with pastors across the country. We look forward to being able to cheer on local churches as they share the good news of Jesus across the street, as well as open doors to new mission collaborations across the world.”

Commenting on her new role, Lisa says: “It has been my privilege to support Baptist churches and Pastors throughout SA/NT since 2022 and WA since 2024 as State Leader with Baptist Mission Australia. With my role expanding now to National Church Relationships Manager, I am excited to meet with pastors and leaders to continue to grow and develop partnerships, expanding and deepening the work of sharing the Gospel around Australia and the world as Baptist Mission Australia has done for over 150 years.”

A new concept that Lisa will be working on within her new role is the Multiplying Kingdom Impact church partnership initiative. We will share more news on this initiative in the coming months as Baptist Mission Australia invites local churches to share in focused partnerships supporting integral mission projects across the world. Lisa will also be available to connect with pastors to talk about ways we can raise global mission awareness and enable more people to fully participate in God’s global mission vision.

Lisa will be based in South Australia in her new role. She can be contacted at lcornish@baptistmissionaustralia.org.

Alongside of Lisa, there are several other National Team members available to support and resource local churches. These team members include:

  • Andrew Duncan: Australian Intercultural Team Leader and NSW & ACT Church Relationships Manager
  • Nathan Reid: National Mobilisation Manager
  • Geoff Maddock: Intercultural Learning and Collaboration Specialist, and Intercultural Communities Lead
  • Melanie Downes: Qld Church Relationships Manager
  • Elliot Keane: First Nations Engagement Facilitator
  • Teagan Dwyer-Riviere: Communications Manager

You can read more about the ways this team can support your local church as you engage in local and global mission here.

Lisa and our other National Team members will be very happy to connect and chat more with you, as we explore how we can assist your church and shape relevant, tailored global mission partnerships.
