Play Therapy at Language of the Heart
Ministry in Cambodia

Language of the Heart was initiated by Baptist Mission Australia’s team member, and speech pathologist, Rachel. Rachel identified a need and trained local women to provide a sensory and communication rich play environment for children with disabilities.
The children and their families learn and practice strategies and skills to improve behaviour, play, daily living and communication skills. We provide access to longer term interventions and a support community for families that is not available elsewhere, and it enables them to interact with other families in a similar situation for increased support. It also provides training and employment for the local staff, benefiting their families and community.
In 2025, Rachel is serving from both Australia and Cambodia and training the local staff to not only deliver the therapy services, but also increase their knowledge and experience of running the organisation. Team member Catherine also volunteers with the team one day a week, providing continuity and staff support.
Khmer children with disabilities, and their families, are professionally supported to participate more fully in their communities. The development of functional skills and access to long-term therapy input can transform their lives!
