How could your skills and talents fit with life in the Silk Road Area?

The Silk Road team is passionate about empowering the K people to develop their own distinctive way of following Jesus. They do this through studying the local language and culture, and building relationships with the local people so they can become accepted outsiders in the K community. The focus of their work is in rural towns and surrounding areas.

One of their goals is to establish a self-sustaining international study centre. However, they also wish to explore other new platforms, and look for ways in which the team can use their skills to serve together.

The Silk Road is a land of opportunity. While there are hangovers from the Soviet Era, this also means there are areas for growth. This is particularly relevant in the allied health, education, tourism and trades sectors. Business, especially, makes sense to the people of Central Asia.

What we’re looking for:

• A willingness to devote your first year/s on the field to language and culture study
• Experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Business, accounting, administration, training in the formation of business plans, micro-finance, import-export, manufacturing, consulting, ethical business practices
  • Various farming enterprises – broadacre cropping, intensive vegetable growing, greenhouses, irrigation, orchards, animal husbandry, herd health and breeding, agribusiness development, poultry, people passionate about rural communities and development
  • Woodwork, welding, plumbing, electrical engineering, machinery modification, design, repair and maintenance, carpentry and furniture restoration, or those experienced in these areas who are willing to share their knowledge and skills with local people
  • Ecotourism, skills in outdoor education, tour management, photography, hospitality, marketing, trekking, camping and more. The Silk Road Area attracts travellers who are looking to discover the beautiful landscapes and adventures on offer.
