Are you a health practitioner who is eager to use your professional skills in an intercultural setting for the advancement of God’s kingdom? Are you excited by the idea of creating new roles that will make a real difference to the K people?
Baptist Mission Australia is seeking allied health practitioners to live and serve in the Silk Road Area, where the need is great and services are limited.
The team is currently operating a community-based paediatrics practice. This includes some clinical therapy, running social inclusion programs, and exploring culturally appropriate ways of supporting care givers.
This role is suitable for someone who is excited to learn the local K language, build positive relationships with the local people, and adapt their clinical practices to the local context.
There is a growing group of allied health expatriates living in the region, who seek to support each other and champion the development of quality allied health services in the country. Participation in this group is encouraged.
Key responsibilities:
- Explore and identify the needs of the community in line with community development principles
- Develop services (individual, group or communal, clinical, educational, advocacy) based on identified needs and own clinical expertise
- Implement, manage and review services in line with professional best practice
- Practice within local and sending country code of practice and cultural norms
- Familiarise and connect with local medical/paramedical, educational, and governmental staff and systems as appropriate
Qualifications and professional development:
- Bachelor degree in an allied health field
- 5 years clinical experience
- Continuing professional registration from Australia is recommended, but not required
- Aligning with local professional groups is encouraged
What we’re looking for:
- Strong clinical background
- Ability to adapt and problem solve in a low resourced environment
- Ability to self-direct and initiate services
- Willingness to engage in a professionally respectful manner with all approaches to health and treatment, regardless of personal opinion
- Willingness to practice outside of traditional roles of the profession, with support and where safe to do so
