Our team member Joyce uses her experience to offer sewing lessons for people in her community. She teaches weekly lessons for a group of approximately 20 Yawo people to teach them how to sew and give them practical experience. When a class graduates, Joyce begins with a new cohort of students. There’s a long waiting list for Joyce’s classes!
Joyce also teaches the importance of managing a micro-business so they have the best chance at achieving their goals of running small tailoring businesses. An increase in income for many Yawo families starts with something as seemingly small, but deeply significant, as being able to purchase a bar of soap for their family. As funds increase, they can afford to access medical care and education for children.
A skill like sewing can transform the life of a family.
Your support covers costs of 10 sewing machines, tables, chairs, irons, fabric, tools and a small annual contribution to the owners of the land where the training classes are held.
Sewing is a skill Yawo people can use to bring dignity and hope, to transform their communities, to teach the next generation and to support much-needed income for their families.
