Baptist Mission Australia is in the early stages of establishing a partnership with Cipula Camwenye Limited (CC Ltd.) in Malawi to support this not-for-profit organisation that enables Yawo locals to become business owners and increase employment opportunities across the community through a number of initiatives.

Partnership Context
In 2024 Malawi was ranked as the 7th poorest country in the world . Around 70% of the population lives on less than US$2 per day  and most people depend on subsistence agriculture to survive. As part of our team’s work among the Yawo people, we not only want to share the good news of Jesus with people but we also want to help break this cycle of poverty. Gainful employment helps restore people’s dignity and the sense of self-worth that comes with financial independence.

Partnership Specifics
Tim and Mel have helped to establish a not-for-profit entity, Cipula Camwenye Limited, to act as a business incubator through which Yawo locals can be supported to become business owners in their own right and to create opportunities for ongoing employment for a wider section of the Yawo community.

CC Ltd primarily earns income by renting its venues to various local businesses, including a nursery and day care as well as a coffee shop. Part of CC Ltd’s profits are then used to help support a number of Yawo Gospel workers, who are working in partnership with Baptist Mission Australia in the villages around Mangochi. In addition to providing employment opportunities for the Yawo, we want to see money generated in Malawi being used to further support local faith leaders to share the good news of Jesus in their communities.

By supporting the local Yawo community in establishing business and increasing employment, skills are being learned, income is being earned, ministries are being supported and poverty is being tackled within the local community.
