Excited to Hear God's Word

Tobias shares an update about the Bible Translation Project in Mozambique.

Tobias shares, "During July and August the team and I were able to distribute audio versions of Genesis, Exodus and Matthew, on SD cards to local villages.

We arrived at one community of around a dozen people, the women were busy weaving mats and baskets to sell beside the road. We began a conversation with the people of this village and played them a story each from Genesis, Exodus, and Matthew. The Matthew portion was 8:1-17 when Jesus heals the leper, the centurion's servant and Peter's mother-in-law.

When we got back to our car, two elders approached us and said there was a woman in their community who had been unwell for over two years. They asked if we thought they could or should be praying for this woman and were also wondering whether we thought Jesus could still heal someone as He did in the story they had just listened to.

The elders took us to the woman, she was in bed in a house nearby and completely non-verbal. We prayed with the woman and I would love if you would also pray for her as you go about your week.

We also travelled to the Niassa Reserve. Reception of the audio books was quite positive in this region too. All three villages that we visited were very isolated and it was encouraging to see people's faces light up when they heard God's Word in their own language - something that most hadn't previously experienced.

In another village, a bit closer to home, the women broke into a song as we were leaving, celebrating that they had recieved the Word of God! You watch a video of the women singing here >>

They had just listened to and received copies of our translation. One lady, not realising that she would get her own copy of the audio and afraid of missing out, had quietly put her phone near the speaker to record what was being played so she would have it for later. She was very pleased afterwards to receive her own copy that she could keep on her phone! Many people have basic phones here that can take memory cards – it’s very convenient for distributing audio Bibles.

It has been so encouraging to see people engaging with God in their own language and culture. Please pray that God will continue to use our translations to work in the lives of the Yawo people.  « Back to News
