Daz and Bee share an update about the new café - six months on!

Daz and Bee share, “It has been six months since we opened the cafe and things are going really well! We are enjoying getting to know our staff and customers. We are challenged almost daily by the responsibility of leading the team and interacting with various members of the community; from the tax department to local suppliers and our neighbours. Though we feel stretched and often overwhelmed, we can see that God is refining us through it all. We cannot help but praise Him as we witness all the amazing things He is achieving this year! 

Business wise, the numbers are all adding up which is really encouraging as we endeavour to meet our goals of financial sustainability. The local community is really enjoying our product, and we are thankful for God’s provision.

We close the cafe early one Thursday each month to have a team meeting and to give the cafe a deep clean. These times together create a space for team bonding and are creating a culture of care amongst our team. We are grateful for this group of people!

In a recent staff meeting at the café, we discussed the Kingdom concept of what it means to guard our minds, as our thoughts inform our words, words lead to actions, actions become habits, and whatever becomes a habit can impact our character. We discussed various examples of how negative or unkind thoughts can lead to behaviours which will impact our relationships with other people, and most importantly, our Father. 

This was a new concept for our staff and we could see them thinking deeply about it. It was good to spend time reflecting on this principle again. What are some of my thought habits that need reining in? It’s so easy to become complacent and allow our minds to run away with things that are not helpful to us.

As Paul writes, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” - Philippians 4:8
