Medical care and education are often under threat due to ongoing conflict in Myanmar which, among other challenges, causes large scale displacement and limited access to basic needs.

Baptist Mission Australia partners with an organisation called Sharing Hope, which support Karen refugees and internally displaced communities on the Thai-Burma border.

We support Hsa Mu Per Medical Clinic and Mission School to ensure that access to basic medical care and education continue. The medical clinic is accessed by 2,000 people who come from 30 villages, travelling between 30 minutes and up to 12 hours to access treatment for common illnesses and minor injuries. The school is operating in the jungle to maximise safety for the youth and teachers. By ensuring teacher wages are covered, 265 students not only have continuity in their education but also have access to food and greater protection from the day-to-day challenges in the conflict.

This project provides wages for four medics and 20 school teachers, as well as medical supplies, transport and resources. Investing in these local leaders provides much-needed support to those they serve, as well as their families and wider communities.

Join in God’s concern for justice, economic, health, education and employment challenges for communities on the Thai-Burma border. Put your faith into action to implement initiatives that support holistic, local community transformation.
