Our team members Mark and Ngoc partner with a Hmong village in northern Vietnam. The village lay in typhoon Yagi’s path, and experienced incredible loss. It was under water for over a week, roads and infrastructure were destroyed and 25 families lost their homes and livelihoods from landslides. The families are still living in temporary tents and the local community has helped gather food and supplies.
The next challenge is for the families to rebuild their homes and farms, as most of them don’t have the education nor the national language skills to work in the big cities. One house costs approximately $1,440 to build. The houses will be simple but sturdy structures, the wood is provided by the local village and the main costs cover the carpenters’ labour and supplies. As the funds for each house are raised, our team will distribute the funds through a local pastor, ensuring that homes are built quickly and efficiently.
The generosity of Australians to rebuild 25 homes is an expression of love for this community. Team members Mark and Ngoc provide pastoral support and encouragement, our funds can provide much-needed practical support.
