Laying in the typhoon’s path, a local village Mark and Ngoc partner experienced incredible loss. Their township was under water for over a week, roads and infrastructure were destroyed and 25 families in the communities lost their homes and their livelihoods from landslides. At the time, we were unable to help as no one could travel to the area because the mountain roads were cut off and no one could send money for basic needs because the local bank was flooded and closed!
Now there is an opportunity to help, to rebuild homes in a new location for these 25 families who have lost everything they owned and who don’t have the education nor the national language skills to work in the big cities. Most are staying in the village to rebuild their lives.
Currently, the government has set up temporary tents for those families and local community has gathered food and supplies. There are no other government safety nets and as winter approaches, the families need more permanent structures to call home.
One house is approximately $1,350 to build (the currency fluctuations may change this). We will send money in increments – enough to build one house at a time as quickly as possible. The houses will be simple but sturdy structures, the wood is provided by the local village and the main costs cover the carpenters’ labour and supplies like nails.
If your selected project is fully funded when your gift arrives, we will allocate your gift to a project, team member or ministry that is in the same location or fulfils a similar purpose. All care is taken to ensure project and gift information on this website is accurate and up to date. However, project information may change without notice.
