This is how the team in South East Asia is sharing God's love through word and deed.
Team Leader Dave shares, "God is opening up opportunities for us to holistically minister to people here. One way this is happening is through our engagement with people in Scavenger communities. These communities are very poor. They typically live on garbage tips or in slums next to those places. They are often malnourished and live hand to mouth. Sadly, they are often taken advantage of by others in society who offer loans at exorbitant interest rate, trapping them in debt.
Through our Foundation, we are getting to know people in these communities. We pay fair prices for the recyclable plastic, paper and glass goods that they scavenge. And then we help recycle those goods in ways that help protect the environment.
And as we get to know them, we also get to share about the good news of the Kingdom.
The number of communities that we're serving is continually growing. The amount of recyclables that we are recycling every month is growing also, and we are seeing more and more people come into the Kingdom through these efforts.
Another avenue that God has opened us up for us is literacy centres for children who live in remote, rural communities. These children are often malnourished. There is a lot of childhood stunting and a lack of good hygiene, nutrition and educational opportunities. But as we've opened up these literacy centres, we're getting to know people and building trust in the communities. As the children learn how to read, we also have opportunities to share the good news of Jesus with them and their families.
Through these and other ways, we are walking alongside people here - ministering to them in a holistic way and sharing the good news about Jesus. Praise God that we are seeing people come into the Kingdom and in turn, sharing the good news with others.
Thank you so much for your partnership with us! We are so grateful."
